Now REDF is expanding the impact of its work nationally, building the field of social enterprise, deepening the evidence base to demonstrate the return on investment, and partnering with some of the most effective and innovative social enterprises around the country to strengthen their business, scale their impact, and help tens of thousands more people transform their lives and futures.
Position Description – Program Manager

In this newly-crafted position, you will have a chance to significantly increase REDF’s footprint by deepening our existing relationships with dozens of social enterprises across the country. These social enterprises are all alumni of the national programs we offer -- venture philanthropy portfolio, loan portfolio, and business accelerator. You will build relationships with these organizations to identify their ongoing needs, provide support via REDF resources, or connect them to partner organizations. One of the primary ways we engage with this group of organizations is through our annual Partner Retreat. There, we bring together over 100 social enterprise leaders for three days of content, professional development, and networking opportunities.  You will oversee all aspects of the event -- content, design, structure, and execution to deliver an unparalleled experience where these incredible leaders feel valued and celebrated for their contributions to the field. Through both relationship-building and learnings from the Retreat, REDF will be looking to you to help answer the following question that informs our strategy for 2021 and beyond – how can REDF better support the leaders who are trying to grow social enterprises?
Essential Responsibilities

Program Development (50%)
REDF is launching a number of efforts to connect social enterprise leaders. We want to build meaningful relationships across our network to enable collaboration and to create a sense of shared purpose across the field by piloting several new initiatives. The Program Manager is responsible for designing and launching these initiatives which are expected to become a core part of REDF’s strategic direction for 2021-2025.
  • Draft a theory of change and launch plan for each initiative including KPIs and measurement plan. Document key roles, responsibilities, and processes involved in the administration of the initiatives and secure the involvement of other REDF teams as needed.
  • Design and launch new peer-to-peer learning programs in collaboration with REDF leadership.  Specifically, work with REDF leadership to design/launch a small grant program for site visits and leadership exchanges, and develop/launch the process for curating collective learning experiences for our social enterprise partners.
  • Proactively design work plans for each project, appropriately incorporating and communicating with other staff – both from the Programs Team and Shared Services Team.
  • Contribute to knowledge-sharing by codifying lessons learned for use in programming (e.g. Accelerator curriculum or REDFworkshop.org)

Partner Retreat (50%)
The annual Partner Retreat is a three-day convening that brings together 100 social enterprise leaders from REDF’s network of grantees, borrowers, and accelerator graduates. The Program Manager is responsible for curating this event from start to finish.
  • Event Design: Collaborate with social enterprises and internal stakeholders to co-create and curate desired learning and networking experiences building on what we’ve already learned about designing this event; manage a steering committee of key REDF colleagues.
  • Outcomes & Measurement: Identify KPIs and implement appropriate survey and measurement tools to assess how the event performs against key objectives.
  • Project Management: Develop master production schedule and execute on key deliverables. Conduct site visits as part of planning process. In collaboration with designated events manager, oversee logistics including venue & hotel selection, catering, decor, entertainment, transportation, special guests, equipment, and marketing materials. 
  • Attendee Management: Manage the invitee and attendee lists. Ensure registration of all staff, partners, and guests. Utilize the Cvent software system to create a streamlined and positive experience for attendees including app usage on-site.
  • Communications: Oversee and execute internal and external communications plan including detailed messaging for each audience. As needed, manage external vendors in creation of printed materials.
Essential Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in a related field; Masters degree in Organizational Behavior or similar preferred. Bachelor’s degree in business, social science, or commensurate experience will be considered
  • Energized by the prospect of crafting a new programmatic area that will help shape REDF’s strategy for 2021 and beyond
  • Passionate about bringing best-in-class leadership development principles to the work REDF does; experience advising or coaching social entrepreneurs and/or social enterprises
  • Experience designing events that focus on experiential learning
  • Enjoy working in ambiguous situations; can remain goal-oriented while operating with flexibility
  • Work well independently while being proactive in initiating cross-team collaboration
  • Maintain a customer service orientation; keep social enterprise needs at the core of program design
  • Strong analytical skills; able to conduct analysis for projects, draw conclusions, and make concrete, actionable recommendations
  • Thrive working with people from a range of cultural backgrounds, skills levels, and experience
  • Highly proficient with MS PowerPoint and Excel; comfort with Salesforce and Cvent (or an ability to learn quickly)
  • Able to travel up to 30% of the time

  • Knowledge of human-centered design principles

  • Experience working with small businesses, nonprofits and nonprofit-run businesses
  • Experience with job training and job creation programs employing those with significant barriers to employment
