Revenue and Grants Accountant

Since 1997, REDF has invested in 177 social enterprises in 26 states. Together, these businesses have employed over 36,000 people, and earned $720 million in revenue (and counting). It’s an investment that works—generating
$2.23 in benefits for every $1.00 spent.
A key goal of REDF’s 2020 strategy is to support social enterprises and generate employment for 50,000 people nationwide. They believe that providing more people an opportunity to change their lives through employment creates a stronger and more inclusive society. REDF is looking for a seasoned fundraising leader who shares their commitment to this work.
The Grants Accountant reports to the Director of Finance and oversees and conducts the accounting and finance functions associated with grants and revenue. You are highly organized, a critical thinker and detail-oriented. You have excellent communication skills and the ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced growing organization. You are proactive in improving processes and procedures, and eager to build your strategic, finance and accounting skills. The key focus of your role at REDF is to provide fiscal stewardship over REDFs grants and donations.
Manage the fiscal portion of all philanthropic and government grants; work with Program colleagues to thoroughly understand REDFs programs and funding needs; prepare all related grant proposals, budgets, interim and final reports as required by grant agreements.
Work directly with program and fiscal leadership to analyze and report on funding surpluses and deficits for all REDF activities and programs to internal and external stakeholders (Management, Board of Directors, etc.).
Thoroughly and accurately Identify and record all grant expenditures.
Analyze, reconcile and forecast all restricted and unrestricted revenues for internal and external stakeholders on a timely basis (Management, Board of Directors, etc.).
Perform daily accounting functions related to revenue of $10M-$20M annually: make deposits, track incoming wires, manage online donation portal, prepare invoices for multi-year grants and pledges, and post all revenue related transactions in NetSuite.
Analyze and reconcile General Ledger revenue and receivables accounts; prepare monthly Accounts Receivable aging reports.
Work with fundraising colleagues to conduct monthly revenue reconciliations between accounting and fundraising systems.
Work with finance colleagues to design and implement any upgrades and refinements to existing financial systems.
Participate in all period end duties and complete in a timely manner.
Enforce & maintain internal controls, implement processes to improve efficiencies.
Ability to back up other staff, and assume other duties as required.
3 – 5 years’ accounting experience is required.
Non-profit or Foundation experience a plus.
Advanced skills with Excel, including pivot tables and advanced functions, are required.
Experience with NetSuite and/or other accounting software required.
Experience and skill with budgeting, and planning and analysis, is highly valued.
Excellent time management and prioritization skills.
Strong attention to detail.
Effective written/oral communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently, with some degree of flexibility and ambiguity.
Enjoy working as part of a team, exchanging insights and following up on team members’ input.
